Canciones de Mi Corazon
I am pleased to introduce a project that has been taking shape in my mind and is now becoming a tangible collection: Canciones de Mi Corazón — Songs of My Heart.
The premise is straightforward: songs carry far more than melody. They carry language, history, memory, identity, and the emotional life of a people. Yet many culturally important songs are heard or repeated without listeners fully understanding their words, origins, or meaning.
My goal is to make these songs more accessible without stripping away their cultural character.
Each song is developed as a concise six-page learning and performance booklet containing:
• The song’s cultural story and authorship history
• Original-language lyrics with plain-English meaning
• Pronunciation and vocabulary guidance
• Beginner musical and accompaniment information
• Rehearsal, memorization, and group-performance guidance
• Documented credits, rights, and human-readable sources
The project begins with Volume One: Mexican Cultural Classics.
CMC-001 — Las Mañanitas established the master format.
CMC-002 — Cielito Lindo is the second completed module, and I am sharing the master CMC-001 with my network today.
The larger vision extends well beyond one country or one language. I want to build an international collection of culturally significant songs from around the world—each treated with respect, careful research, honest attribution, and a practical format that families, students, educators, and community groups can actually use.
This is not a claim of authorship over traditional songs or the work of their composers. My contribution is the project concept, research and compilation framework, English meaning translations, learning architecture, and editorial direction.
A song should not become culturally distant simply because its language is unfamiliar. With the right bridge, people can understand it, learn it, sing it, and carry it forward.
I welcome thoughtful feedback from musicians, educators, language teachers, cultural historians, and anyone who believes that music can connect people across generations and borders.
